Divot recovery of cool‐season turfgrass species and mixtures in low maintenance fairways

چکیده
There is a need to identify turfgrass species and mixtures for golf course fairways that can be managed sustainably with reduced fertility, pesticides, irrigation. The current study evaluated Agrostis stolonifera L. (creeping bentgrass [AST]), capillaris (colonial [ACP]), canina (velvet [ACN]), Festuca rubra ssp. commutata Gaudin (Chewings fescue [FRC]), brevipila Tracey (hard [FBP]), littoralis (G. Mey) Auquier (slender creeping red [FRL]) planted as monostands in determine the ideal choice low maintenance fairway management. Plots were established fall of 2014 randomized complete block design three replications. Turf quality disease resistance visually from 2015–2018. Divots mechanically created during growing seasons 2017 2018 initial divot injury recovery every two weeks. Monostands ACN had best turf least brown patch (caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn) but took longer recover divots. A. exhibited above average more susceptible disease. Compared all other entries, AST lowest most dollar spot Clarireedia jacksonii C. Salgado, L.A. Beirn, B.B. Clarke, & J.A. Crouch sp. nov.). spp. (fine spp.), when mixed improved ACP cultivars such ‘Puritan’ ‘Capri’, below performance or combined older SR 7100. Divot variable between years FRL cultivar Shoreline FRC recovered quickly both years, while Capri FBP Beacon slow years. Most comparable and, some cases, better than indicating alternative tested this could provide sustainable management on fairways.

Evaluation of Alternative Turfgrass Species for Low-input Golf Course Fairways
As restrictions on water use, fertilization, and pesticide applications continue to increase, golf course superintendents will need to use grass species that require reduced inputs. The objective of this study was to evaluate alternative turfgrass species under lowinput fairways conditions. In 2005, 17 species were established on native soil in St. Paul, MN. Each species was evaluated at three ...
متن کاملExtension Turfgrass Maintenance Essential Elements
Actively growing turfgrasses usually contain more than 75 percent water. Their “dry” matter holds 16 nutrient elements considered essential for survival, flowering and/or seed production. Turfgrasses receive three of these, carbon (C), hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O), from carbon dioxide in the air and from water. The remaining essential elements are minerals, most often supplied by the soil. Healt...
